Tips On Installing Maker Decals

Replacing the decals on your Maker wheels is easy but tricky – if you were the kind of kid who enjoyed building model airplanes you’ll love this job, however if you don’t have the patience for fiddly work then we suggest either returning the wheels to us or enlisting the help of a friend.

The decals are CNC cut from a high quality, UV-stabilised vinyl. They’re extremely sticky and once the decal touches the rim it won’t peel off or allow you to reposition it. You get one shot and one shot only.

We are always a phone call or email away if you need extra assistance so don’t be afraid to give us a call if you get stuck 🙂

We don’t recommend changing the hub band. These are applied before the wheelbuild and is incredibly difficult to get right and look good.

Installing “Wheelworks/Maker” Decal

Step 1: Remove your tyre/tube. (This will make fitting the decals much easier!)

Step 2: Remove the old decals if not done already.

Step 3: Thoroughly clean the rim to remove any glue or grease. The best way is to use a clean rag and acetone.

Step 4: Locate the middle of the decal (we should have marked this for you)

Step 5: Carefully remove the decal backing, depending on the colour this may be clear or white. If the decal sticks to the clear/white backing carefully lower the backing back down and press the decal to help it stick to the application tape.

Step 6: Find the middle of the rim (this is directly opposite the valve hole) be careful not to drop the decal onto the rim as it will stick instantly.

Step 7: Place one end of the decal onto the rim with the “location dot” at the bottom of the rim while holding up the rest of the decal

Step 8: Working along the decal align the rest of the “location dots” at the bottom of the rim

Step 9: firmly press/rub the decal onto the rim while being careful not to damage or crease the decal.

Step 10: Carefully remove the application tape while making sure it doesn’t pull up the decal.

Step 11: This step is only applicable if you are installing a two colour “Wheelworks/Maker” align the last “Wheelworks” dot with the first “Maker” dot. Place the end dot at the base of the rim.

Step 12: Remove the second  application tape

Step 13: Remove the “location dots”

Step 14: You’re all done! 🙂

Installing the “W” at the valve

Step 1: Remove your tyre/tube. (This will make fitting the decals much easier!)

Step 2: Remove the old decals if not done already.

Step 3: Thoroughly clean the rim to remove any glue or grease. The best way is to use a clean rag and acetone.

Step 4: The decal will come punched with a hole and cut to fit around the spoke/nipple

Step 5: Remove the clear or white backing

Step 6: Place the decal over the spoke next to the valve. The direction of the stripe is the direction the wheel will travel (stripe leading)

Step 7: Align the decal straight on the rim.

Step 8: Close the gap as best as possible.

Step 9: Working on one side at a time and from bottom to top rub the decal down being careful not to crease the decal. Repeat on the other side.

Step 10: Remove the application tape being careful not to pull the decal up with it. You may end up with a small split at the join, this is normal.

Step 11: You’re all done! 🙂
