Gary Stewart is a designer best known for his work in both print and more recently in restaurant and bar design. He’s designed most of Al Brown’s books and restaurants as well as amazing spots like Napier’s Mister D. Gary and I moved our respective businesses into a shared workshop in Lyall Bay 7 years ago and we’ve cohabited ever since and have become great friends. Despite coming across as surly, maybe even grumpy, Gary has a heart of gold and is a pleasure to be around.
Sharing workspace with someone not related to our business has been fun and it’s nice to be able to share a coffee and a laugh.
Unfortunately that’s coming to an end as Gary and wife Veronica have sold their Wellington house and are moving to Ophir in Central Otago to build their dream house and spend more time riding bikes and motorbikes. Ophir, population 50, doesn’t know what is about to hit them.
It’s been simply awesome sharing workspace with Gary. His dry whit and incredible sense of humour will be sorely missed. Gary is the undisputed pun-champion and is the office king of style.
Thanks Gary – it’s been a wicked few years and we’ll sorely miss you around the office.
