Maker Rim Brake Carbon Rims

Rim Choices

Wheelworks Maker V4 comes in 35mm, 50mm or 60mm depths for different rider weights and usage.  With multiple hub options available, we’ll work with you to select the correct front and rear rim depths to ensure a wheelset which balances aerodynamics, climbing ability and crosswind performance. To further personalize the wheels we can mix-and-match depths to create mullets: shorter in the front for better crosswind performance, and deeper in the back for greater stiffness and aerodynamics.

Tubeless Ready

The Maker’s 19mm hooked bead allows you to install any tyre from 23mm to 40mm. It is tubeless-ready to work with the latest generation of tubeless-road tyres and has been painstakingly designed to be as easy as possible to install these occasionally tight-fitting tyres. Matched to the tubeless design is a hooked bead which allows the use of non-tubeless tyres and to provide uncompromised safety.

Our attention to detail extends to the tubeless valves: serrated lockrings make them easy to fit or remove and integrated wrench-flats are provided for removing super-tight valves. The valve cores are removable for easy cleaning or for assistance if installing a difficult tubeless tyre. The inner section of the valve is optimised for our rims ensuring an easy air-tight fit.

Easy Tyre Installation

It’s no secret that tyres have become harder to install onto wheels over the past few years. This is primarily due to tubeless tyres: rim manufactures have made their rims larger to reduce blow-offs and tyre companies have made their tyres smaller for the same reason. The result is small tyres on big rims often lead to sore thumbs and money in the swear jar.

The Maker is different: We’ve got the lowest sidewall height of any rim we’ve tested and one of the deepest internal gutters and the result is that a pair of Continental GP5000 tubeless tyres will go on either by hand or with minimal force. You’re welcome.

Brake Performance & Free Brake Pads for Life

Carbon rims have a reputation for questionable brake performance. But not so with the Maker wheelsets designed for the steep, narrow hills of Wellington.

Optimum brake performance comes from the rim and brake pad being designed in unison. We worked with the industry’s best carbon fiber experts to ensure the high Tg resins and special carbon fibres embedded in the Maker rim’s brake track are perfectly matched to the Maker brake pad. This gives excellent performance in both wet and dry conditions, so you can worry about what rain jacket to wear, not whether your brakes will work.

The Maker’s brake track will last for a long, long time… there's a few customers with 50,000kms on their Makers and the brake track is still in near perfect shape. How? Because the Maker-specific brake pads are designed to wear out rather than wearing the brake surface.

Maker brake pads typically last for around 10,000km.

We supply a fresh set with new wheelsets and when your pads are worn, contact us and we’ll send you a new set, free of charge.

Maker brake pads must be used with Maker Rim Brake Carbon rims for the Lifetime Carbon Rim Warranty on Manufacturing Defects to apply.
