Two Platforms: Road & Mountain
Erase offers two hub platforms: one tailored for road and gravel bikes, and another for mountain bikes. Functionally they’re quite similar, but the designs vary to suit each discipline’s visual and technical demands. Both are e-bike compatible, which is a welcome feature.
- Road/gravel: Available in 100x12mm and 142x12mm (non-Boost), centerlock only
- Mountain: Options for 110x15mm and 110x20mm Boost front, and 148x12mm Boost or 157x12mm SuperBoost rear. Centerlock or 6-bolt rotor options
- Note: No quick release options are available
Spoke and Flange Compatibility
Both road and MTB hubs come in J-bend, straight-pull, and hook flange configurations, with a wide range of spoke counts. This flexibility is excellent for custom wheelbuilding—ideal for use with Berd spokes or pairing with dynamos like the SON 29s.
Colours and Finish
- Hubs are available in silver, black, purple, red and orange.
- J-bend and straight-pull hubs are a traditional shiny anodized colour and hook-flange hubs are matte in colour.
Weights and Bearings
- Road hubs: ~327g per pair / MTB hubs: 357g (centerlock), 387g (6-bolt)
These are impressively light figures considering the use of full-size cartridge bearings and a titanium freehub body.
The hubs use TPI bearings, which are high-quality and easy to replace thanks to the use of standard sizes. The design uses the endcaps as dust shields, with no additional seals beyond the cartridge bearings.
The Freehub Body: Erase’s Standout Feature
The freehub body is a highlight. Instead of complex internal mechanisms, Erase uses a large stainless steel clutch plate and a single spring in a smart, minimalist ratchet design.
- Machined from a single billet of titanium, the freehub and ratchet are robust, quiet, and resistant to cassette gouging
- The system is simple to service, with no small parts or tricky assembly
- Engagement options: 36 points (road), 60 points (MTB)
- Low drag, with a crisp, satisfying sound
- Freehubs are available for all major drivetrains: Shimano HG, Microspline, SRAM XD/XDR, and Campagnolo N3W. Road and MTB freehub bodies are not interchangeable due to flange geometry differences.
Serviceability and Support
Erase hubs are designed with longevity in mind. Most small parts are readily available and affordable, and while the technical documents could be better labelled, the straightforward construction means servicing is intuitive.
No special tools are needed—everything pulls apart by hand, making routine maintenance fast and frustration-free.
