Wheelworks Warranty


We guarantee Wheelworks wheels for life because we know they will last. We build using only the highest quality components and we put great effort into our wheelbuilding and quality-control processes to reduce the chance of failure. We pride ourselves in the value you will get from a set of Wheelworks Handcrafted Wheels.

A wheel set free from abuse and neglect will go the distance. Unless something gets jammed into it, a wheel should not break spokes. Unless you whack something really hard, the wheel will never go significantly out of true. Our use of Grimlock ensures spokes won’t pop and ping when new and that spoke tension won’t “settle” after a few rides. Our gravel and mountain bike carbon rims are designed to go the distance so if one breaks, whether impact damage or JRA - we’ll cover it. The hub’s bearings will wear with use (that’s normal and unavoidable), but until they’re worn-out, nothing strange will happen to the wheelset. And if something weird does happen we’re here to help take care of it.

We offer a comprehensive warranty to put right any issues with your wheel within our control - particularly the quality of components and the wheel building process.


Warranty for new wheels

This warranty applies to original Wheelworks wheels and wheelsets, built by Wheelworks with original components supplied by ourselves.

The warranty is for the original wheelset owner and does not cover damage caused by improper care or maintenance (including where the wheel interacts with other parts of your bike), negligence or wilful damage, normal wear and tear, accident, improper usage, or the natural breakdown of colours and materials over time and use.

We target a 24 business hour turnaround on warranty repairs to get you back on your bike ASAP.

You cover any shipping costs to get the wheel/s to us for warranty repairs; we’ll cover shipping costs to return it/them to you.

If you are outside of NZ when shipping wheels to us, please contact us for instructions to ensure efficient handling by NZ Customs.

Lifetime Carbon Rim Manufacturing Defects Warranty

Applies to all Wheelworks carbon rims. If you have a material or manufacturing defect we will replace the rim and rebuild the wheel at no charge. Maker rims must be used with Maker brake pads for this warranty to apply.

Carbon Rim Impact-Damage Warranty  

Applies to Wheelworks FLITE and Wheelworks OG Carbon rims, if supplied. For wheels built with steel spokes, this is a Lifetime Warranty. For wheels built with Berd spokes, this is a 5 year warranty. If you break the Wheelworks carbon rim of your original Wheelworks wheel while riding it, we’ll replace the rim and rebuild the wheel at no charge. Rim damage caused by improper care, maintenance or useage, car exhaust damage, negligence or while the bike is not being ridden is not covered.

2 Year Alloy Rim Warranty 

DT Swiss provide a 2-year warranty on their aluminium rims which covers material or manufacturing defects only. If you suffer a material or manufacturing defect we will replace the rim and rebuild the wheel at no charge.

Spoke & Nipple Warranty  

If a nipple breaks, or a spoke breaks at the hub or nipple, we’ll replace it and re-true/tension the wheel at no charge. For wheels built with steel spokes, this is a Lifetime Warranty. For wheels built with Berd spokes, this is a 5 year warranty. If a spoke breaks in its center section this is not covered by our warranty. However, we will replace one or two spokes at no charge. Replacing further breakages may be charged for; this is entirely at Wheelworks’ discretion.  Find more information on why spokes break here. 

Hub Warranty

DIAL hubs have a lifetime warranty covering material defects. Normal bearing wear is not covered.  For all other hub brands, the manufacturer’s warranty applies. DT Swiss • Industry 9 • Chris King • Onyx • SON • Rohloff • Hope Note that modifying third-party hubs (e.g. for Berd spoked wheels) may invalidate your hub warranty. 

Wheelbuild Warranty 

If your wheel goes out of true in general use, we will re-true/tension at no charge. For wheels built with steel spokes, this is a Lifetime Warranty. For wheels built with Berd spokes, this is a 5 year warranty.

Warranty for Wheelbuilds with Supplied Components

  • This warranty applies to wheels and wheelsets built by Wheelworks using any supplied components. It does not cover damage caused by improper care or maintenance (including where the wheel interacts with other parts of your bike), negligence or wilful damage, normal wear and tear, improper usage, or the natural breakdown of colours and materials over time and use.

We target a 24 business hour turnaround on warranty repairs to get you back on your bike asap.

You cover any shipping costs to get the wheel/s to us for warranty repairs; we’ll cover shipping costs to return it/them to you.
